First pen completed using silver urushi inlay technique ("fallen leaves") After much trial and error, the first pen using silver urushi inlay technique has been completed! it took more than 2~3 months to complete, from the start. some of the steps of the process: -machining ebonite barrel, cap, grip, feed -super urushi + tamenuri -super precision engraving -filling the engravings with silver urushi (Ag 99.9%) -precision surface grinding to make the engravings and urus.. 2021. 10. 20.
silver urushi results of previously engraved designs (triangle, pond, dove, leaves) these are the silver urushi results of previously engraved designs. these are the initial prototypes of the eureka silver urushi inlay technique. the engravings were filled with silver urushi, then flat ground. after that a clear urushi was used to achieve the fine finish, and additional fortification. the pictures below are the results after the final urushi layer. after it is dried and long ti.. 2021. 10. 16.
dove engravings, silver urushi inlay result this is my first attempt of the new silver inlay method. the result is pretty good. from this work, i got a good feedback, with which i can improve the inlay technique. i am striving to develop a stable and high quality method of silver inlay. thank you 2021. 10. 7.
Silver Urushi Inlay test (cicada, maple leaf) last time i filled the grooves with gold urushi. the results were somewhat acceptable, but it seems more layer is required to make the color deeper. soon i realized some real potential problems with the original chinkin technique. it seemed that i simply cannot fill in the grooves all the way to the top. that would require tremendous amount of inefficient work, as well as a lot of consumed gold... 2021. 9. 10.
eureka chinkin v2 (test results) hello guys :) today i finished one of the designs with eureka chinkin v2 technique. still a long way to go, and much failures. however, improvements are gradually taking place. this time i made a cap with yellow tamenuri, with blossom grooves (filled with silver urushi) unlike the usual chinkin, the grooves are almost completely filled, so the surface is flat. a lot of filling is required, so pu.. 2021. 9. 9.
black widow tamenuri urushi developed hello guys, this is the fountainpen researcher. today i completed a unique type of urushi that i recently tried. i call it black widow tamenuri urushi technique the pattern beneath the clear top urushi layer reminds me of a continual pattern of black widow spider' pattern. on top of the pattern, a clear top urushi has been applied. this is one of the most difficult urushi teniques i use. it is e.. 2021. 7. 27.

experimenting with patina on silver alloy nibs hello this is fountain pen researcher here, aka dovidu. today, i experimented with my AuAg nib (approximately 60~70% silver nib, with gold etc. alloying metals) initially i used sterling silver nib, which tarnished very badly. then i switched to argentium silver from england. the argentium's got a bit of germanium in the metal, which improves tarnish resistance. while argentium did perform bette.. 2021. 5. 16.
reduced type Chaos urushi developed so far, chaos urushi technique showed interesting result. the patterns and colors were nothing i've ever seen before. also, the durability of the urushi far surpassed solid color / tamenuri urushi. this durability factor has been proven dozens of times, when i did sanding work on them. although some users enjoy its super uniqueness, others suggested it was a bit overwhelming for their taste. the.. 2021. 5. 14.
Aurora nib Retipping original state: EF nib with approximately 1/2 worn iridium point. Repair objective: MF (ball 0.8mm) nib with stub style point. -all works went smoothly. -a new type of point smoothing used. it used to take 15~30min to make perfect writing nib. however, with upgraded type of smoothing technique, perfect griding is achieved in 1~3 minutes. less iridium is worn down, as well as perfectly scratch fr.. 2021. 5. 8.
