How to increase flow of the ebonite feeder (5th Gen. V3)

by Eureka_Admin

This is how to increase the flow of the 5th gen. V3 ebonite feeder.
The feeder already has optimized flow amount.
however, under certain circumstances, if you feel like needing a greater flow,
you can actually increase the ink flow in 4 increments.
the effects of increasing the flow is permanent, and there's no going back.
so please make your decision very carefully.

* Although they were created as equally as possible, some feeders have less ink flow.

depending on the situation, I might widen 1 or 2 valves

there's are 4 "valves" as can be seen in below picture.
you can tell the top portion of the slit is thinner than the slits @ left and right side of the feeder.
basically, if you widen the top thin slit, ink flow will increase.
Do not increase the width too much. Width must be within 2x of the side slits thickness, "B" in the picture below.)
Do not widen it too deeply. depth should be between 0.3 ~ 0.7mm, and never exceed 1mm.
If the width / depth is too little, the increased ink flow will not be noticeable.
Widen the thin slit, starting from the main air channel.

Only do partial widening, so do not connect the widened path to the side rib slit (don't widen it all the way to the thicker, side rib slit).

Tools that can be used to widen the slit:
1. folded thin sand paper (recommended sandpaper grit: #400 ~ 800
2. small triangular file
3. razor blade (this won't grind down the ebonite, but will compress the ebonite, so the channel is widened - the effects may not be permanent, but will last fairly long)

try widening just one of the valves, then test to see if it suits your needs.
each time you test for the increased flow, you want to use up a lot of ink, to 100% make sure you don't get the false ink flow readings (due to welled up ink, etc.).
You want to write a lot, to get right feel of the true value of increased ink flow.

if the first expansion doesn't satisfy you, you can repeat the above process, until you widen all 4 valves.

however, I will warn you, widening all 4 valves may result in explosive ink flow !

in extreme cases, ink will simply drip out of the pen.

For the sake of stability, I do not recommend expanding more than 2 (in most cases just 1 expansion is fine).

there's no going back once the valve is widened, so please make your decision carefully.

See the below picture,
A: valve (thin slit)
B: left & right rib slits (thick slit)

Widening the surface of A, to the same thickness as B, will result in increased ink flow.
as mentioned before, do not widen it too deep or too wide.

Do not connect the widened slit to B (Do it only partially)
to make sure you don't over do it, frequent ink flow testing will be very helpful.
