Hello Dear Eureka Users,
Slim Asymmetry Development has been completed
This preculiar type of pen turned out to be more difficult to develop than anticipated.
The design is quite different from my other models.
The prime cause of this is due to the dimension of the material used.
The restriction of material used, defined overall design features.
although there were limitations, there are also advantages.
Slim asymmetry can be developed in various materials such as peek(natural), ultem, peek(blue), peek(green), peek(black), PPSU(various colors), etc.
Unfortunately though, currently only peek(natural) can be used for production.
More time is needed for developing the pen in other materials.
I'd say this pen is not for novice fountainpen users.
This is becuase one needs to be aware of how the fountain pen operates at fundamental level.
The exterior design and ink management is vastly different.
I shall explain in detail about this, later when I post the manual for this pen.
Below is the overal design of the pen
I strived to achieve perfect harmonious curve, while simultaneously achieving good balance.
Also durability of each component is very good. Barrel and Plug components are practically indestructible for everyday use. Cap component by design, is weaker compared to the barrel and plug.
two types of cap were developed:
1) plain round cap
2) hexadecagon cap (16 facets)
Due to its peculiar design, cap thread was positioned at the very front side of the pen.
the thread & O-ring area must be minimized, so that it won't interrupt with writing.
Also, the cap thread is tapered, so that the cap can post.
due to these unusual restrictions,
sometimes at a specific position and angle, there may be an interruption when the cap is closed.
When an interruption occurs, one could either:
1) just ignore and keep screwing the cap
2) back up a little and screw the cap again.
I'm suspecting the forward positioned threading is causing this, along with other factors above mentioned.
I've done my best to minimize this phenomenon, although it is still not perfect.
maybe in the future I might be able to solve the issue completely, but still unclear.
Unfortunately, the forward positioned threading is a prime feature of the pen, it cannot be altered.
from my experience though, this phenomenon reduces in severity as the thread wears down a bit, with use.
For typical users however, this may not be a deal-breaker.
Some people I know tested it, they considered it to be trivial.
The plug has been optimized, compared to previous protoype.
1. cleaner groove cut
2. proper O-ring groove dimension for sealing
3. some fine design changes
Groove cut precision has been improved
Hexadecagon facet precision has been perfected through research.
the cap is postable.
although due to its short size, if the cap is contaminated with ink, the ink can contaminate the posted area @ the plug component.
more details will be explained in the slim asymmetry manual in the future.
