◆ What is PEEK material?
PEEK is used in Aerospace / automotive / electrical industries, Semiconductor equipments, medical devices, and extreme situations where all other general plastics fail.
PEEK is a super engineering plastic, with the following characteristics:
1) superb chemical resistance (not affected by Acids, alcohol, acetone, diluted bleach, and other harsh chemicals)
2) high temperature resistance (max continuous use 260C / short duration 300C) (general plastics will get distorted even at Sub 100~120C)
3) superb strength, wear resistance, durability (on another level, compared to general plastics)
typically a fountain pen is made from general-purpose plastics ("Resins") such as:
ABS, Acrylic / Plexiglass, PC, PP, Epoxy, etc.
PEEK will greatly outperform the general-purpose plastics.
a high quality PEEK will cost 10~20x of acrylic.
◆Ebonite (Japan)
There's a substantial quality difference between Japanese vs Chinese / Indian ebonite.
the biggest issues we noticed with chinese / Indian ebonite is as follows:
1. lots of contaminants
2. lots of pits and micro-cracks
3. more nasty smell
Japanese high quality ebonite material does have the above problems as well.
However, the frequency of the problems we experienced is literally much, much less.
(we have experience with Indian / Chinese Ebonite as well, although they are not used anymore)
